Miss Marian Gibbings, who will loave Whenuakura for Wellington on Monday, j was the guest - of honour at a farewell dance in the Whenuakura hall on Thurs- ■ day, the hostesses being Mesdames R. j M. Stevens and Baker, with Miss B. j Wilson and Miss.R. Harris assisting. Fol- j lowing supper Mr. C. R. Honeyfield ex- | pressed the general regret of the people ' of the district at Miss Gibbings' depar- | ture. The assistance she had always given to the social work of the district would be greatly missed. As a token of their esteem they asked her to accept a j gift of crystal goblets and a jug. Musical ] honours were accorded and Mr. Fargie ! replied on Miss Gibbings" behalf. | Chrysanthemums, carnations and bar- j bery were used to decorate the card : rooms when Miss Betty McCarty cele- | brated her 21st birthday at her parents' | home at Patea. Mrs. McCarty wore a j gown of black charmeuse-with matching ! ring velvet coatee, Miss Betty wearing a | blue lace • frock with taff etas godets in j the skirt. Mr. W. F. Sheild proposed ! the toast of the guest of honour, and Mr. I F. Hamel proposed the health of Mr. and j Mrs. J. McCarty. Mr. G. R. Taylor replied on their behalf. Mrs., F. Bostock assisted the hostess. Among the guests were Mesdames F. W. Hamel, G. R. Taylor, W. F. Sheild, E. K. Cameron, A. J. Hopcroft, F. Bostock, C. Shepherd, J. W. Haarer, Misses N. Green, R. Harris, B. Petersen, M. Gibbings, M. Mawhinney and B. Wilson.
