CORONATION LIGHTING
CONCESSION IN CHAIIGE REFUSED. ATTITUDE OF THE GOVERNMENT. Criticism of the Government's attitude in not allowing lighting concessions during the Coronation to boards using partly their own plant was expressed at the meeting of the Hawera Chamber of Commerce last night. Representations will be made with the object of securing better treatment, and it will be pointed out that because of the difflculty in obtaining bunting lighting is being relied on as the mainstay of the display. If the South Taranaki power system had been started after the commencement of the Government scheme there would be some reason for differentiating, said Mr. E. K. Cameron. The Government was not at all justified in seeking out those authorities that had their own plants. On such a special occasion they had (4 a right to ask the power board for some concession in lighting charges, said Mr. E. Dixon. The board operated in the interests of the community. The board would have to pay for three months' power on the basis of the special peak that would be reached during Coronation week, said Mr. J. E. Campbell. "In the light of that we have a claim on the Government not to Ireat us in that way on account of the Coronation week," said Mr. Dixon. It was decided to send a deputation to the power board to ask for cheaper lighting during the week.
