SEASON CLOSING
(By "Wheel.")
CYCL1NG AND ATHLETICS. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB ACTIVITIES.
The New Plymouth Cycle and Athletic Club's evening meetings will conclude next Wednesday. The season has been a fairy lean one and the usual enthusiasm has not been shown by competitors or officials. Probably this was ciue to financial losses during the season as well as unfayourable weather conditions at times. Nevertheless, the "stickers" of the club have shown up consistently and some good performances have been registered by competitors. The outstanding runner of the season has been W. Walker, who has had an easy win in the series and is in an unbeatable position with one night to go. Walker is one of the club's best members and has well deserved his win. The jumping series finds A. Warren in the lead by one point from H. Wyatt with one event to go. Both competitors have been consistent club men and a win for either would be popular. The three-quarter mile cycle handicap proved one of the best this season and a close race resulted in G. Parker taking the lead from a bunched field over the last 50 yards after a hard ride to -catch the leaders. He was closely followed by W. Wood, who has ridden well and greatly improved throughout the season. D. Bond scored an overdue win in the one and a half mile event, and with W. Wood and G. Parker should ride well at the meetings over Easter. R. Scott, one of the most popular club cyclists, has improved a lot on the track this season. He has sportingly and regularly contested the club evcnts, and
this riding should benefit him greatly £or the road season. Club members will be competing at Pukearuhe and Otorohanga on Easter Monday and at Te *Kuiti on Easter Saturday. Jack Foole is staying at Inglewood for a week or two to ride in the Taranaki circuit of meetings, also at Te Kuiti and Otorohanga. The club's season for 1936-37 will end on April 30, and the annual meeting will take p'lace early in May. Following are forthcorning meetings of interest to club riders and runners: Easter Saturday, Te Kuiti sports; Easter Monday, Otorohanga and Pukearulie sports; March 31, New Plymouth club night, final; April 1, Inglewood sports; April 3, Waitara sports; April 8, Kaimata; April 17, Midhirst; April 24, Pukengahu.
