THE ELLERSLIE CARD
FINE FIELD IN EASTER LADY KYRA; HAUT MONDE PROSPECTS IN REVIEW Much interest will be taken in the Auckland Racing Club's autumn meeting commencing at Ellerslie to-day. With the exception of the Great Northern Oaks and the Mangere Steeplechase all events have drawn good fields, and some fine racing should be witnessed. The totalisator will operate on the single pool system with the 75-25 pay-out. Following are details of the fields with reviews in each case by "Hurry On";—
Floodtide and King Rey are such good performers at Ellerslie that they will be in demand, despite their big imposts. Master Brierly and Mazir have winning form on the country circuit, they having been successful at Te Aroha, and Mazir galloped well on Thursday morning. If started in this event in preference to the Easter, Scotland would have friends. Lagoon is always a possibility. Gay Talkie's Ohinemuri Cup win was impressive and Knight of Australia should be in the picture. Among the lightweights good efforts may be expected from Kelly, Arrnacourt, Round Up and Legatee. The race bears an open appearance, but good support may come for MAZIR KNIGHT OF AUSTRALIA GAY TALKIE
This. is a poor field. Laugmng Uass has the best credentials as she has proved herself a useful sprinter. Rulette is a fair sort who won at Rotorua. Tip Toes has staying blood in her veins. The best backed may be LAUGHING LASS RULETTE
The top weight, Modern Maid, was not impressive at Te Aroha. If Erination is started in this event he would be entitled to respect after his Te Aroha success, but he may be reserved for the Steeples. where the opposition is weak. High Quality is improving all the time arid if 'the going is firm he should make a bold showing. Valpai's recent good track work suggests that he will have a following, while Sandy Dix seldom runs a bad race the reverse way. Huskie is expected to race prominently and English Night should make his presence felt. The principal fancies may be HIGH QUALITY ENGLISH NIGHT HUSKIE
■This event has already been ruiiy reviewed and the final trials did little to alter the situation. Kilonsoa has receded ih favour owing to a decisive beating in a gallop by Tooley Street, but Scotland, Royal Appellant, Shy, King Neptune and Haut Monde all galloped well. Lady Kyra, Royal Dance and Lornacre are in good order, and there is likely to be backing for Tray Bit. Speculation is sure to take a wide range but the favourites may be LADY KYRA HAUT MONDE LORNACRE But should rain fall Royal Dance will advance in favour.
Despite his Trentham failure Francis Drake will receive solid support. He was below form that day and his second showed him to be a good colt. The best has not been seen of Smoke Screen; who is now more seasoned. He ran two fine races at Trentham. The hopes of the north are Airam, Huntingmore and Elanage, all recent winners. Airam is a smart galloper but a little wayward at the barrier. Elanage is reported to have made marked improvement of late, while Huntingmore won a double at Te Aroha. Good efforts may come from FRANCIS DRAKE SMOKE SCREEN AIRAM
If Erination is reserved for this event he will be fancied, as he is a good jumper with a good deal more pace on the flat than his opponents. Irish Comet, a winner at Paeroa, has proved his ability over the Ellerslie country. London is useful when in form and Booklav might make a 'chaser. Those in demand may include ERINATION IRISH COMET
The victories of Wildflower at Hawera, Te Rapa and Stratford were impressive, and she should take a good deal of beating though she has been rehandicapped for her Stratford success. A good showing can be expected from Nuclei. Royal Vaals . has shown considerable promise and Barricade won in good style at Tauranga. Highborn is. reputed to be a good sort, Those to find favour may incude WILDFLOWER ROYAL VAALS HIGHBORN
Form on the Auckland provincial circuit points to the chances of King Theo, Black Musk, Prince Rangi, Besiege and Jack Tar, but Tail Light was responsible for a solid effort at Stratford and the New Plymouth pair, Bonny Glow and Te Broney, are not without prospects. Valamito and Grand City are possibilities, but the popular selections may be JACK TAR PRINCE RANGI TAIL LIGHT
