WIN FOR STRATFORD
INTER-CLUB TENNIS PLAY BEGUN MATCH AGAINST HAWERA PARK. By 18 sets to six, 183 games to 136, Stratford Beat Hawera Park in a competition tennis match at Stratford on Saturday. Park players were at a disadvantage in that they were accustomed to grass courts and played on Stratford’s hard courts. Stratford’s superiority was most marked in the combined doubles, where the team won every match. Details of the matches, with Stratford names first in each case, are:— Men’s singles:—Finlayson beat E. Yearbury 9—7, Hale beat F. Bell 9—l, Houston beat L. Billows 9—3, Cameron lost to C. Robinson 6—9, Lawrence beat L. Hulbert 9—5, Hinton beat S. Shalders 9—B. Men’s doubles: Finlayson and Hale beat Yearbury and Bell 9—B, Houston and Cameron lost to Billows and Robinson B—9, Lawrence and Hinton beat Hulbert and Shalders 9—7.
Women’s singles: Miss R. Furrie beat Miss G. Bernard 7—2, Miss H. Wilmshurst beat Miss C. Stevens 7—4, Miss A. Hardy-Jones lost to Miss K. Brown 6—7, Mrs. Snell lost to Mrs. Thomas 5—7, Mrs. Jenkins lost to Miss F. Campbell I—7.
