RECITAL BY BAND

GOOD STRATFORD PROGRAMME. FIRST OF NEW CONDUCTOR. An encouraging public response greeted the first recital of the Stratford Citizens* Band under its new conductor, Mr. C. A. Turner, in the Plaza Theatre last night. The programme was worthy of the occasion, and the band, which was at full strength, gave its best performance for a long time. The band items were: March, Old Comrades (Teicke); selection, Pirates of Penzance and Mikado (Sullivan); overture, Zampa (Herald); and two hymns. There was a new life and crispness in the performance that made every item, enjoyable and the tone and precision of the combination were fully up to the indications of recent reports. It was a commendable recitaL Items were also given by Mrs. Mcßeth (.songs), Miss.N. Howard (violin), Mr. N. Elliott (cornet) and the Misses Elliott (vocal duets). Miss E. Moon played the accompaniments.
