NEW PLYMOUTH

Miss Wade, Timaru, who has been visiting Mrs. W, R. Wade, left on her return yesterday morning. Mrs C. F. Millward, Wanganui, was a visitor to New Plymouth during the week on her return from Auckland. Mrs. Fitzgerald, Napier, arrived during the week to spend a holiday at New Plymouth as the guest of Mrs. Alan Powdrell. ~■

Mrs. D’Arcy Cameron has arrived from Hawera to live at New Plymouth. Miss Cargill, Christchurch, who has been the guest of Mrs. W. C. Weston, left on her return on Thursday.

Mrs. Eric Shaw left New Plymouth on Thursday for Takapau, where she will be the guest of Mrs. T. Wilson. Mrs. F, H. Chapman entertained at bridge on Tuesday night in honour of Mrs. G. F. Rich, who will leave next month to visit England.

Mrs F. Farley, Whakatane, who has been the guest of Mrs. A. H. Palmer, is Visiting Mrs. H. Stocker. Miss Isa M. Watson, who has been at Auckland for several weeks, is expected to return this week-end. Mrs. E. C. Trehey arrived from Palmerston North on Tuesday to live at New Plymouth. Mrs. J- R. Wellington who has been staying at New Plymouth at the Criterio/Hotel for several weeks, will leave for Wanganui to-day. Miss Peggy Wilkinson, of the nursing staff of the New Plymouth hospital, returned on Thursday from a holiday at Wanganui. Mrs. J. M. Westaway, Hawera, is the guest of Mrs. E. C. Hay ton. Miss Margaret Prichard, Dannevirke,who has been the guest of Miss Constance Leatham, left on Thursday for Wanganui. Mrs. J. Ramson entertained many friends yesterday at a croquet afternoon at her home. . .

Mrs. R. M. Scelly, accompanied by her sister, Miss G. Murch, has returned to Auckland after visiting Mrs. J. it. Murch, New Plymouth,

Mrs, J. S. McKellar and Miss McKellar left yesterday to spend several weeks at Wellington as the guests of Mrs. H. Abraham, Khandallah.

Mrs. A. Thorne, who has been visiting England and Scotland, arrived at Wellington on Thursday and returned _to New Plymouth last night, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Monica Thorne, who met her at Wellington.

Mrs. A. Kaye, Toronto, Canada, who has been visiting Mrs. W. Fossey, has left for Marton.

Mrs. C. K. Wilson, Dominion president of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, has returned to Pio Pio after visiting Mrs. M. M. Arthur and Mrs. T. McPhlffips. Mrs. Alex. R. Strang returned from England and the Continent by the Tainui on Thursday morning and will arrive by car at New Plymouth this evening after spending several days with friends at Heretaunga.

Mrs. C. Campbell, Invercargill, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. W. W, Thomson, returned during the week.

Mrs. D. Deighton and Mrs, L. W. , Lovell have returned from a short visit to Wellington, where they met Mr. Hugh Bajly, who has been on an extended visit to England and Mexico, Mrs. P. A. Bulmer will leave to-day on a tour of the North Island. Miss Thora Burke will return to Thames to-day.

Mrs. C. Coxhead, Manurewa, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. F. C. Walton.

Guests at the Hotel Imperial this week have included Mrs. bewar (Christchurch), Mrs. R. Carpenter (Waipukurr.O, Mrs. A. W. Martin (Dunedin), Mrs. A. D. Bell (Clevedon) and Mrs. W. A. Gardiner (Diamond Harbour). Mrs. J. Mountain, London, who has been touring the Auckland and Rotorua districts, will arrive to-day at New Plymouth to spend several weeks with Mrs. J. A. Valentine. Dance For Nurses.

On Wednesday evening a dance and a bridge party were held in the memorial hall of the New Plymouth Nurses’ Home. Bowls of yellow broom, Iceland poppies and blue iris were the floral decorations used, with large clusters of multi-col-oured balloons suspended from the ceiling.

The matron, Miss B, Campbell, received the guests. She wore a lime green velvet frock with a cherry velvet coatee. The sub-matron, Miss M. Dew, wore black velvet trimmed with silver; Miss E. A. Johnstone, tutor sister, was wearing black taffetas; and the home sister, Miss V. Hammond, wore acorn brown lace.

Artist’s London Marriage. News has been received of the marriage, celebrated quietly at London last Saturday, o' Miss Ida Lysons, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. M. Lysons, Watson Street, New Plymouth, to Mr. Douglas Cook, only son of Mrs. L. Cook and the late Mr. Cook, Lexham Gardens, London. A wedding reception before the marriage was held at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, f Mrs. Douglas Cook, who has been studying art at London for several years, has had another of her pictures hung by the Royal Institute of Oil Painters recently. It is a three-quarter study of a Chinese standing in national costume and holding his fan. Guests at ( the White Hart Hotel during the week have been Miss L. Symes (London), Mrs. Burdoe (Auckland), Mrs. A. Duffin (Auckland), Miss J. Curton (Tologa Bay), Mrs. McKenzie (Dannevirke), Mrs. J. R. Roidon (Auckland), Mrs. W. D. Gratton (Auckland), Mrs. W. G.
