SEGREGATION SOUGHT
T.B. CHINESE OPIUM ADDICT. DIFFICULTY OF MAGISTRATE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 7. Chan Fun, a Chinese fruiterer, aged 48, one of nine arrested in an opium deh last week, was brought up for sentence before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., this morning. A medicai specialist gave evidence that the man had an incurable form of tuberculosis and was an opium addict. Because of the danger of infection it was not advisable to send him to prison. He was not a suitable patient for a sanatorium, but for a shelter. “In his present state he is a menace and should be segregated,” said Mr. Wilson. r The man was remanded to December a pending arrangements to place him in a belter oi- to allow his being shipped to China by his compatriots.
