PASTURE CONTEST

JUDGING IN CARDIFF DISTRICT. FARMERS SHOW KEEN INTEREST. Spring judging of the entries in the pasture competition was advanced a further stage yesterday, when -the judge, Mr. A. G. Elliott, of the fields division of the Department of Agriculture, visited the Cardiff district. Though the farmers of the district have for some years taken a live interest in the competitions and have secured provincial championship honours, this is the first occasion on which they have competed in the pasture competition. There was a very satisfactory entry. Keen interest was taken by the farmers in the judging and though the weather was far from pleasant, a cold wind with frequent showers in the morning culminating in heavy rain in the early afternoon, the judge was accompanied during the day by several of the entrants at. various times and throughout the whole of the judging by Mr. H. Clemow, secretary of the Cardiff branch .of the Farmers’ Union. Mr. Elliott explained the method of awarding points and showed where the pastures were deficient. The official party was entertained to morning tea by Mr. and Mrs. E. Bayly and to afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Mills. The following list shows the position of the leading competitors:—
