DOUBLE WIN FOR STRATFORD. VISIT OF PATEA RIFLEMEN. By the comparatively small margin of 24 points, Stratford (1243) beat Patea (1219) in a miniature range shooting match at Stratford on Wednesday night. Only seven riflemen arrived from Patea, and to complete' the team of 15 all the Stratford riflemen were pooled and eight d: —n. Aperture sights and the standard rifle club targets were used. Vinten 5, S. Pruden 25, total 145. GENERAL ITEMS. Judgment by Default. Judgment by default was given by Mr. W. H. Woodward at the Eltham Magistrate’s Court yesterday in a claim by A- R. Gower against I. L.. Radich for £3 19s. Costs £1 3s 6d were allowed. Heavy Traffic Fee Unpaid. L. A. Gower was fined £1 10s and 10s costs at the Eltham Police Court yesterday on a charge of failing to pay a heavy traffic license fee. Equity for Crown Mortgagors. “The Government has altered its attitude and gone much further than what I proposed in 1931,” said Mr. C. A. Wilkinson at Kapuni on Wednesday. “It has established machinery for the reduction of the capital debt of farmers, while in the case of Crown mortgagors at the end of five years they are to receive an equity of 20 per cent, in the value of the land when the new mortgage is created. But this is not so in the case of private mortgagors. Mr. Coates wanted to put this in the Bill, but some of his supporters would not agree.”

Eltham Waltzing Competition. Mr. E. Feaver and Mrs. Marsh were the winners of a waltzing competition at the Eltham parish hall on Wednesday. There were 10 entries, and Mr. O; Manley was the judge. Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr. J. Stevenson and partner and Mr.. Feaver and Mrs. Marsh. The dance attracted a large attendance, including many from Hawera and Stratford, and over £2O was cleared for church funds. Hooker’s Orchestra played the music, and Mrs. Attrill played extras. Mr. J. Henley was master of ceremonies, and the organisers were Mrs. S. Upperton and Misses M. Hackett and N. White. Mr. P. Alger and Miss S. Walsh were winners of competitions. Rain Prevents Bowling.

Thursday shield bowling competitions in the central division started yesterday, but rain caused the cancellation of most fixtures. It has not yet been decided whether yesterday’s fixtures will be played next Thursday, or whether the fixtures as drawn will be proceeded with, leaving yesterday’s fixtures to be played at some future date. Good Entries. Entries for the annual show of the Stratford A. and P. Association were coming in freely, it was reported to a meeting of the executive of the association on Wednesday night. Judging by results so far, it was stated, the total by the closing date, November 16, should be well up to, if not greater, than that of last year.

Successful Candidate for Show. The executive of the Stratford A. and P. Association intends to ask the successful candidate for the Stratford seat to open the show which will be held on November 27 and 28.

Sports Activities Postponed. The closing of the Mangatoki Golf Club’s season was postponed yesterday owing to wet weather. The Eltham v. Stratford bowling match at Eltham also could not be played.
