SMITH PASSES KARACHI 26 HOURS ON THE FLIGHT NEXT >STOP ALLAHABAD SPEED RECORD ATTEMPT By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 1 a.m. London, Nov 7. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, who left Lympne, England, at 6.27 a.m. (summer time) on Wednesday to fly to Melbourne, passed over Karachi at 1.5 p.m. (7.35 a.m. Greenwich standard time) to-day. He had taken 26 hours and eight minutes. Mr. and Mrs. James Mollison covered the distance in 22 hours five minutes on their record-breaking dash in th? centenary air race to Melbourne. Sir Charles, who is accompanied by Mr. T. Pethybridge, arrived at Athens at 4.30 p.m. yesterday and took off again for Bagdad within an hour and 40 minutes. Sir Charles said everything was going well. The weather was good but bumpy. Sir Charles intends to make his next stop at Allahabad. The distance from London to Karachi, by the stages followed in the centenary race, is about 4100 miles, so that Sir Charles has maintained an average speed, inclusive of stops, of about 160 miles an hour.
