MOTUROA GUILD
ANNUAL BAZAAR SUCCESSFUL. FUNDS FOR CHURCH SITE. In less than an hour well-laden and attractive stalls were almost cleared of goods yesterday afternoon at the annual bazaar of the Moturoa Women s Anglican Guild, held in the Mission Hall to raise funds for the purchase of a section for a church at Moturoa. Already by previous efforts a substantial sum has been raised and this will be considerably augmented as a result of the quick sales yesterday. The bazaar was organised by energetic guild members under the leadership of Mrs. J. Looney and Mrs. E. Spray (secretary). The hall had' been decorated with flowers of all descriptions, and it was crowded to capacity when Archdeacon G. H. Gavin arrived to open the bazaar. Both he and Archdeacon Fi G. Evans, who was present with Mrs. Evans, congratulated the guild on the splendid display and the work it had done. In the evening .euchre was played in the hall, the winners of prizes being Mrs. O. Eva (19A games) 1, and Mrs. Boulton (16i games) 2 after a play-off with Mesdames T. Broughton, Millman and Chong. The stallholders were: Sewing, Mesdames C. Gledhill, E. M. Prideaux; cake, Mr. and Mrs. W. Quickfall; sweets, Mr. E. Alomes; afternoon tea, Mesdames G. Holmes, C. Alomes, A. Dent, E. Shaw. In charge of guessing competitions were Mesdames W. McKay and R. Mells. Judges at a baby show were Mrs. G. W. Childerstone and Miss Sandford. The winner of the section for babies under 12 months was Brian Bruce. For the section between 12-months and 18 months Sidney Interman was first and Tui Opai second. Winners of competitions were as follow:—Mrs. E. Alomes, cake given by Mrs. E. M. Prideaux; Mrs. A. Edgecombe, cake given by Mr. Aldie; Mrs. R. Nesbit, apron given by Mrs. Alomes; Mrs. R. Cock, Moturoa, dinner; Mrs. R. Cock, Moturoa, baby set given by Mrs. Binsley; Mrs. J. Quinlan, afternoon cloth given by Mrs. Sargenson.
