CHILDREN’S DEATHS

SUICIDE FOLLOWS ACCIDENT. CONCLUSION DRAWN BY CORONER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Taumarunui, Last Night. An inquest was held to-day before the coroner, Mr. A. S. Laird, concerning the deaths of George Sawyer Robson, aged 14 years, known as Hori Horl Rapihana, and Trevor Dean, aged six years, who were found dead beside the Opunui stream on October 13 with gunshot wounds in their heads. The evidence showed that Robson, who took a gun from the house without permission, had a mania for firearms. He had on several occasions pointed a gun at neighbours and at his step-father, with whom he lived, in fun. The gun was very defective. The coroner said he concluded that Robson pointed the gun at Trevor Dean and it was accidentally discharged. Alarmed at what he had done and in fear of the consequence Robson then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. He gave his finding accordingly.
