HEAVY CATTLE LOWER
PRICES EASIER AT BURNSIDE. MORE ENTRIES GENERALLY. ’ Dunedin, Nov. 6. Larger entries were forward in the major sections at the Burnside sale today. The fat cattle entry totalled 320 and was comprised principally of medium quality bullocks. On account of fire larger supply prices were easier, heavy cattle depreciating 30s a head and medium sorts about £1 a head. The offering in the lamb section was the largest to date, a total of 180 being forward, values declining 5s a head. In the fat sheep section 1762 sheep were penned, about half the entry comprising shorn sheep. Prime heavy wethers and ewes in wool, which were in the minority, barely maintained late rates, while values for medium descriptions receded 2s a head. In the store cattle section 220 were forward and included in the entry were several pens of good-coloured three four-year-old steers which realised from £6 to £7 18s. Vealers were firm, while values for grazier and boner cows remained unchanged. The 36 dairy cows were of very mixed quality, only the best of the younger sorts close to profit being wanted. / , • There were 106 fat pigs yarded, with porkers and baconers in equal proportions. As the sale progressed prices improved from 3s to ss. There were 180 store pigs, good big stores selling to 28s, while suckers brought from 14s to 18s.
