Miss Jefcoate, Christchurch, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. E. McCullough, has returned home. Wanganui Golfers. Newman, P. Power; secretary, Mrs. E. Gilbert. ENGAGEMENT LAURENT—HOSKIN. Violet, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Hoskin, Bell Block, to Raymond Gerald, only son of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Laurent, Bell Block.

WOMEN’S DIVISION Rahotu: There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting at which Mrs. Butler presided and welcomed a new member. The Farmers’ Union sent a donation of £5 ss. Sister Thorne awarded points for the day’s competition for an article from a skein of wool. One needy case was reported and the purchase of clothing to the amount of £1 10s was authorised. The sum of £2 2s was donated to the community chest. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES Turi-town: Although the afternoon was rather wet 37 members and friends attended the monthly meeting. In the absence of the president, Mrs. J. W. Harding (vice-president) presided. It was decided to hold a card evening at Mrs. T. Surrey’s home as a special effort for district federation funds. Mrs. F. Bone gave an interesting half-hour talk on her recent visit to Japan. Pictures, jewellery, chopsticks, sandals etc., were handed round for inspection. A musical half-hour arranged by Mrs. Spragg, convener of the social committee, was much enjoyed. The following contributed to the programme: Songs, Mrs. Hartman, Mrs. Gannaway, Miss Best; violin solos, Miss B. Pinson; elocutionary items, Miss Thomas. Mrs. L. A. Taylor played ths accompaniments and Mrs. T. Muir played for community singing. The monthly competition, a small plate of coconut ice, resulted: Mrs. W. Pollock 1, Mrs. J. Harding 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Gilliver, Hutchinson, Howard and G. Harding.
