CAMPAIGN RESUMED
MR. DICKIE AT FRASER ROAD. Resuming his campaign after his illness, Mr. H. G. Dickie, the National Government candidate for the Patea electorate, addressed a meeting at Fraser Road on Tuesday night. A motion of thanks and confidence on the motion of Messrs. L. A. Jennings and Owen Jones was carried. Speaking in defence of the policy of the Government Mr. Dickie gave reasons for the passing of the various emergency measures at the session. ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. Smith and Trim Ltd. advertises particulars of a sale for to-day, when it will sell laying and table poultry, two pairs of budgerigars, garden tools, and a good .assortment of household furniture and effects in a deceased person’s estate. The sale will commence at 1.30 p.m. GENERAL ITEMS. Swimming Baths Open. The Hawera municipal baths were opened for the season yesterday. The temperature of the water was 60 degrees and that, with the influence of westerly showers, prevented many from taking the plunge. Several swimming club members were active with the polo ball, however, and some school children attended later in the afternoon. Mr. B. Johnson has been appointed custodian. Manaia Euchre and Dance.
The final of the euchre and dance socials in aid of the parish funds was held in the St. Patrick’s hall, Manaia, on Monday. There was a good attendance. Prizes for euchre were won by Miss Burrell 1, Miss Kinsella 2; Mr. R. Harris 1, Mr. H. Gamlin 2. The dance music was played by the Valencia Dance Band, with extras by Mr. M. Whalen. A competition was won by Mrs. R. Hopkins, Hawera. Mr. L. Hughes was master of ceremonies. An excellent supper was served by a committee consisting of Mesdames M. Brown, W. Bourke, J. E. Wells, H. Sutton, E. Winter and E. Vine.
