One hundred and ten ships, totalling 530,554 tons, were under construction in Britain and Ireland on September 30, according to Lloyd’s quarterly returns, while 178 vessels were under construction abroad, totalling 667,415 tons, of which Germany had 268,340 tons, Sweden 89,000 tons, Holland 62,645 tons, Japan 61,305 tons, Denmark 54,533 tons, France 46,520 tons, Italy 24,230 tons and the United States 16,800 tons. Motor-ships under construction total 715,983 tons, including oil tankers totalling 331,583 tons.
