JEALOUSY THE CAUSE

LOWER HUTT MAN’S SUICIDE.

CORONER’S FINDING AT. INQUEST.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 15.

At an inquest at Lower Hutt into the death of Maurice John Power, who shot himself on the night of October 4, the coroner, Mr. Gilbertson, said it was quite evidently a case of jealousy, Power being seriously worried over the fact that there was no hope of him marrying a gin.

The girl, Ethel Molly House, said she had known Power all her life. For three years she had been keeping company with him, but a week previous to his death they mutually agreed to discontinue the friendship, owing to the fact that Power was 19 years older than she was. There was no quarrel, and the parting was quite friendly. She had spoken to him several times after the parting and he appeared to be fretting. Miss House went on to say she had told "him on the evening of the tragedy that she might meet Trask, and she went on to speak of the shootin'' which took place after she did gp. The finding was that, after firing at and seriously wounding lan Trask, Power committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a rifle.
