FARM STUDENTS’ TOUR
PARTY FROM MASSEY COLLEGE.
VISIT TO NORTH TARANAKI.
The party-.of 15 . Massey ■ students, ' which is undertaking a cpmpresive tour in order to. stiidy , different methods of farming and to inspect different classes of land on which those methods have been carried out' arrived at New Plymouth last night after having spent two days ..in . South and Central Taranaki. The party will spend two days in North Taranaki before proceeding to the Waikato. .
. The leader of the party is Mr. C. P. McMeekan, instructor in dairy husbandry at the college, and k?r. R. Clarke, lecturer in sheep farming, is accompanying the party. The itinerary has been arranged to cover .various phases, including pedigree stud farms, dairying, sheep farming and pig farming, as well as specially high . production farms. . . The itinerary on Monday included visits to well-known South Taranaki properties, while yesterday the party visited the property of Mr. C. E.- McGuinness at Mangatoki; Clemow Bros.’ pedigree Jersey stud farm, and Mr.. H. J. Marchant’s Friesian stud at Cardiff. The tourists then came on to Mr. J. Blyde’s farm at Lepperton and studied the pasture methods that have resulted in high production figures. Last night, they riamped at New Plymouth.
Tb.-day the party will visit the property of Mr. G. H. Bell at Oakura and inspect the. Pinewoods. Jersey stud. They also, vifit the property of Mr. A'. R. Gudopp at Westown and inspect his Merivale stud Jerseys and pedigree pigs, as well as the property of Mr. H. Olson, Avenue' Rpad, to inspect a .well-known Taranaki Ayrshire‘herd. The property of Mr. W. B. Fussell at Waiongona, with its numerous, plantations, : will also be visited, and; the party "will encamp 'at Waltara to-fiight. " To-morrow tire, studeriti" will visit the Tikorangi district, where they will inspect the properties of Messrs; J. H. Paulger, where pasture management is a feature, and L. A. Alexander, where commercial pig-keeping will be' studied. Later they proceed to Pukearuhe, where they will inspect Mr. W. J. Freeth’s Ngahiwi pedigree Jersey stud farm and his pastures, also Mr. C. A. Wilkinson’s property, with particular attention to the purebred sheep. . / Mr. J. G. Elliott, of the fields division of the Agricultural Department, will accompany. the party: during > its- stay in North Taranaki.
