RADNOR TENNIS CLUB
SUCCESSFUL OPENING DAY. The Radnor Tennis Club was favoured with sunshine and. a cool northerly breeze for. its opening day on Saturday. There was an attendance of 32, including visitors from Midhirst 'and Pembroke Road. Play commenced at 11 o’clock, a match being played between teams chosen by the president (Mr. G. Vickers) and, the captain (Miss B. Hunt). Each side won seven sets, the president’s team leading by 66 games to 61. , Mr.. Vickers, in declaring the court open,' welcomed the visitors. Mr. W. Harkness (Midhirst) replied for the. visitors and invited members of the club do the Midhirst tennis .opening on Labour Day. Afternoon tea was served by the committee and helpers. Details of the match are as follows, members of the president’s, team being mentioned first:—
Mixed, doubles: Miss D. Kaspar and G. Vickers lost to Miss B. Hunt and A. Mapp 2—6, Mrs. Wall and F. Wall lost to Mrs. Mapp and H. Vickers 2—6, Mrs. Askew and C. Kelly beat Mrs. Hunt and Miss J. Rookes 6—l, Miss M. Kaspar and R. Vickers beat Miss I. Vickers and E. Fear 6—2, Mrs. D. Vickers and S. Reid beat JWrs. P. Andersen and J. B. Hunt 6—3, Mrs. W. Platt and Miss Wardell lost to Miss B. Algie and W. Harkness 5—6. Women’s doubles: Mrs. J. Vickers and Miss P. Kelly beat Mrs. M. Davis and Miss N. Belcher 6—2, -Irs. Askew and Miss Kaspar lost to Mrs. Hunt and Miss Hunt 4—6, Mrs. Wall and Miss M. Kaspar lost to Miss Rookes and Miss Vickers 5 6, Mrs. W. Vickers and Mrs. Platt beat Mrs. Andersen and Mrs. G. Personal arid General. Mr. A. W. Mapp and Miss Norma Mapp have returned from Walton. Mr. and Mrs. A- Pahl.have returned to Walton after visiting the Radnor district. . *
•iMrs. D. Smith has returned to Stratford after visiting her daughter, Mrs. A. Mapp. Mrs. A. Kaspar has returned from a Visit to Turakjna.
Miss Mildred Winter, Inglewood, recently spent a few days with her cousin, Miss B. Hunt.
Miss Monica Askew has returned from a holiday spent with Mrs. Bates, Patea. Miss Askew is now visiting Mahoe. Miss B. Hunt recently paid a short visit to her cousin, Miss M. Winter, Richmond Road, Inglewood. Mr. and, Mrs. A. Ci Davis,' New Plymouth, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. M. Davis.
Mr. and Mrs:. J. Reade are living in their new home. Tire old homestead was totally destroyed by fire last May. Owing to the sunny days following
warm rains the pastures have “come awpy” during the last three weeks and the cows are showing greater production. The first clump of clematis in bloom was seen in the district last week. Confirmation classes are'being conducted in the district, by the Rev. K. J. McFarland. Six young people are being prepared. :
