HAWERA TRACK NOTES CANDIDATES FOR LABOUR DAY. (By “Limited.”) Several heavy showers on- Monday night made the going on the outside of the course proper at the Hawera racecourse on the slow side yesterday for the fast work of the Labour Day candidates. The pegs were out the usual 33 feet from the fence. Ruri (Feasey) and Princess Gowne (Howe) galloped half a mile, Ruri having no difficulty in beating his companion by half a length in 55 2-ss. Starting from the straight six furlongs post Carfex (Cole) and Oriel (Sheild) were together throughout the journey, Carfex shading his opponent at the finish in lm. 23 2-55., the first half-mile being covered, in 555. The two-year-old Notium (Cole) was not fully extended to finish a length in front of Royal Dispute (Sheild) over four furlongs in 55 l-ss. Supreme Court was relegated to half pace exercise on the sand. Ruaform (Conway) went particularly well in a working gallop once round, with Aga Khan (Cole), the last six furlongs being traversed in lm. 255. Dombey (Grindlay) did r solid round at hurdle racing pace. Ingenuity (Cole) finished well ahead of Hunting Lad (Button) in a sprint over three furlongs in 41 4-ss. Celeste (Cook) alone ran half a mile comfortably in 55 l-ss. Fersen, Friesland, Knockout, Silver Wings and Clembroney were allotted light tasks. The best effort of the morning was performed by Gold Gleam (Cook), who finished half a length in front of Kentucky Song (Cole) over half a mile in 54 l-ss. Gold Gleam is very well just now and Kentucky Song did her best local gallop to date. Autumn Leaf (Cole) worked easily over four furlongs in 5745. Sylvanus did light work. Topthorn (Grindlay) sprinted three furlongs in 4045. The two-year-olds Ned Cuttie, International, Master Limond, Waiongona. Brilliancy, Galteemore and the Melissa filly did routine exercise. RICHARDS’ FOUR WINNERS. LEADING JOCKEY IN ENGLAND. London, Oct. 14. Returning after 16 days’ absence as the result of a fall, Gordon Richards rode four winners at Brighton out of six starts. Richards is now the leading jockey with 189 wins in 796 starts.
