Members of the British women’s golf team played at Auckland to-day, when they defeated a North Island team at the Auckland Golf Club’s links at Middlemore in both foursomes and singles matches. This was the visitors’ only second serious contest of their Dominion tour, for apart from their victory over the South Island at Shirley they had played in exhibition games only. Results were:— Foursomes. Mrs. J. B. Walker and Miss J. Anderson (Britain) beat Misses W. BarnsGraham (Poverty # Bay) and P. Helean (Wanganui) 5 and 4. ' Mrs. W. Greenlees and Miss P. Wade (Britain) beat Mrs. R. S. Deighton (Titlrangi) and Mrs. E. L. Barker (Rotorua) 3 and 1. Singles. Mrs. J. B. Walker (Britain) beat Miss W. Barns-Graham (Poverty Bay) 5 and 3. Miss J. The visiting players created a most favourable impression. Conditions for play were anything but pleasant, a strong south-westerly wind accompanied by occasional showers affecting the accuracy of driving and approaching. However, the visitors adapted themselves much better to the conditions than their opponents.
The English golfers left to-night for Wellington, where they will take part in New Zealand women’s championship.
