ELECTION POSITION AT EGMONT.
ENTRY OF LABOUR CANDIDATE. (To the Editor.) Sir,—Election matters are looking up, and we are to have an election in Egmont after all. I am somewhat curious, however, about the evident desire of the Labour Party to -oust our present member, and would ask why the Egmont electors should need so much prodding from Wellington. Surely we are able to take good care of ourselves in the selection of a representative without interference from outside. By the way, can you please tell me if Mr. Richards, M.P., who is telling us what to do, is the same Mr. Richards who won his present seat on a minority vote, there being no less than 7700 votes for the other two candidates and only 4800 for Mr. Richards? If this is correct, surely his own electorate is in need of his attention. We can manage quite well without these perambulating .political carpet baggers.—l am, etc., EGMONT ELECTOR. Eltham, Oct. 15. (The voting for Roskill at the last election was as follows: A. S. Richards (Labour) 4885, W, J., Holdsworth (Independent Reform) 4714, G. C. Munns (Coalition United) 2988.—Editor.]
