TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIPS.
55 ENTRIES FROM WIDE AREA.
• The response to the call for nominations for the Taranaki amateur wrestling championships at New Plymouth this week has been exceptionally good. Fifty-five entries have been received from all parts of the province and there is evens,’ indication that spectacular matwork will characterise all weights. Received from Pa tea, Manaia, Toko, Stratford, Midhirst, Okaiawa, Auroa, New Plymouth and as far north as Mahoenui, the ' entries include some of the finest wrestlers in Taranaki. Some of the heavier men, who in previous seasons earned the appreciation of Taranaki fans but who have not appeared in a public ring this season, will make their appearance. and it will be interesting to see how they fare against some of the ■■ newcomers of the last Reason or two. The" large : number of entries has necessitated two. nights being set aside for the preliminary rounds, the finals to be decided as preliminary bouts to the match between Lofty Blomfield and alen Wade The earlier rounds of the featherweight, lightweight and weight championships will be decided on to-morrow evening, when 27 wrestlers are scheduled to enter the ring. There . are seven .entries for the featherweight event, 13 for the 1 lightweight and seven for the welterweight. - The middleweight, light-heavy, and heavyweight preliminary bouts will be decided on Friday night, there being 28 entries for the three events. The middle ■weight has attracted 13 wrestlers, the .light-heavv 10 and the heavyweight five. The last class is expected to produce • jtbihe solid, wrestling. j
