41-HOUR WEEK WORK

CONSTRUCTION OF AERODROMES.

ORDINARY LABOUR CONDITIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. x Wellington, Last Night. In connection with the programme of aerodrome construction work the Minister of Employment, the Hon. S. G. Smith, stated to-night that the Unemployment Board had given further consideration to the conditions under which these works would be done. It had previously been decided that the work would be done by unemployment relief labour on a rationed basis of 2J, 3 and 3J days a week at aerodromes close to centres where there were considerable numbers of unemployed registered, the Minister said. Under the new arrangements now being made the aerodromes at such centres would be carried out on a 41 hours a week basis and under ordinary public works conditions. The board was ascertaining at which aerodromes the full time method of working could be put into operation forthwith, and the change-over to the new conditions would be made in respect of all aerodromes found suitable for this method of working.
