COMING WRESTLING MATCHES.

AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL.

A wonderful response to the Wrestling Association’s initiative in holding an amateur championships meeting is exemplified by the number of entries received. Fifty-six aspirants for the championships of their classes will be witnessed to-morrow and Friday night at the New Plymouth Coronation Hall and very willing contests should eventuate. The- admission charges will be very reasonable, being Is for adults, 6d for school boys and women will be admitted free to the championship bouts on Thursday and Friday nights only. One of the biggest matches offering among the professional wrestlers now operating in this country is between “Lofty” Blomfield (Auckland) and Glen Wade (U.S.A.), and the Taranaki Association is fortunate in being able to stage the fixture at New Plymouth on Saturday night. Each time the pair have met a great contest has resulted and the bouts have proved there is very little between them. Wade is the type of wrestler who appeals to the spectators. He is fast in his movements and is a tried campaigner who is always likely to introduce something new and keeps things moving in a manner which proves how interesting wrestling can be. Blomfield’s advance during the past year has been little short of sensational. Last season he made six appearances without scoring a win, but after a visit to the United States under the care of Dan Koloff he has improved out of sight, and the only man who has shown definite superiority over him in New Zealand this season is Earl McCready. In view of the crowds expected extra seating accommodation will be provided. The Blomfield-Wade contest and the finals of the Taranaki amateur championships will draw wrestling supporters from all parts of the province. The box plan is open at “Chum” Roberts, Devon Street, New Plymouth.
