Miss Frances Broad is spending a holiday at Greymouth. Miss L. Shelton, Wellington/is visiting New Plymouth. Mrs. V. E. Kerr. entertained at bridge yesterday afternoon. Mrs. G. Clarke left yesterday to visit Wellington and Nelson. Mrs. W. J. Reid is visiting Mrs. J. Gray, Kaponga.

Mrs. R. Tait, Hawera, and Mrs. M. Milne, Wellington, who have been the guests of Mrs. G. C. Tait, left for their homes yesterday. l

Miss Ruth Pease, who spent the weekend at New Plymouth with Miss Molly Black, returned to Hawera on Monday.

Mrs. Carson Shea arrived from, Hastings last week to live at New Plymouth.

Mrs. J. Ramson was hostess at an afternoon tea party yesterday. Mrs. C. M. Hill has returned from Tikorangi, where she stayed with her daughter, Mrs, Arthur Foreman, for several days.

Mrs. J. Steer, Auckland, formerly Miss Betty Lee, who has been touring the Rotorua and Hawkes Bay districts, arrive ed at New Plymouth yesterday. She is the guest of Mrs. K. P. Tompkins. Miss Pearl Bolous, who was the guest of Mrs. R. T. McQuade, returned to Auckland on Friday. Mrs. E. Griffiths returned last night from Rahotu, where' she was the guest of Mrs. Grant Maxwell for several days. Mrs. Jessie Mountain, London, who sperit a few days at New Plymouth as the guest of Mrs. J. A. Valentine, has left for Auckland. Miss Irene Foreman returned to Tiko-. rangi on Monday after spending several days at Wellington. Miss Elva Crawshaw was hostess on Saturday night at a party for Miss Lucy Knight, Tataraimaka, who will leave shortly for Wellington. Mrs. G. C. Neal left on Monday to visit Auckland for the wedding of Miss J. Rudd this week.

Miss Dorothy Clarke is visiting Auckland as the guest of Mrs. Noel Jones, Milford.

The resignation of Nurse M. Shore, Wellington, of the New Plymouth Public Hospital nursing staff, was accepted with regret by the Taranaki Hospital Board yesterday.

Mrs. W. N. Stephenson was hostess at an-afternoon tea party yesterday in honour of Mrs. C. Waterston, Tauranga, who is her guest at present. News has been received that Miss L. Gibb-Brown, Wanganui, and Miss M. McKinnon, Wellington,' who were on the mirsing staff of the New Plymouth hospital, arrived at London by the Orsova last week.

Mrs. D. Tynan, who came from America several years ago and will shortly leave for Australia, was entertained at a party arranged in her honour on Saturday evening at Mrs. F. Orbell’s residence. Large bowls of golden Iceland poppies and cherry blossom were arranged in the room in which flag bridge was played. The prize-winners were Mrs. R. Colson, Mrs. S. Wyllie and Miss Grace Avery, and the consolation winners were Mrs. D. Tynan, Mrs. Devery and Miss Solin. Mrs. T. G. Thomson won the prize for the travelling flag. During the evening songs were given by Mrs. R. J. Grant and Mrs. Lang played the accompaniments. HAWERA Miss Jean McLean and Miss Oliver Kay left by car for Wellington on Saturday to attend the golf championships, in which Miss Kay will participate, They vyill be the guests of Mrs. Marsdon, Oriental Bay. WAVERLEY Miss Adlam, of the Hawera public hospital nursing staff, is visiting her sister, Miss T. Adlam, Waverley. Mrs. Eric Melville, Maungaturoto, is visiting Waverley. Miss J. Alexander, Waverley, left on Monday with Miss Sheila Lovell, Hawera, to spend several weeks at Whangarei. OHURA PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs. C. K. PLUNKET SOCIETY WORK. NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE. .. At the monthly, meeting of the New Plymouth Plunket Society committee at Plunket House on Monday afternoon Mrs. Franklin White. presided. Others present were Mesdames R. Lealand, Owen Jones, A. Leslie, J. H. Boon, R. Youngman, A. Canty, J. C. Irving, MacDonald, F. S. Grayling, V. E. Kerr, A. E. Conway, C. E. Roebuck, J. M. Clarke, G. Bradbury, W. Bridger, G. Haughton, F. H. Waters, W. H. Woodward, J. H. Sheat, G. F. Rich, I. M. Kidd, G. Loveridge and Miss B. Balharry. Sympathy with Mrs. Don Fox, president of the Okato sub-branch, in her illness was expressed. Final arrangements were made for Baby Day on October 25. The conveners of the stalls reported that good progress was being made. It was felt that the result of the committee’s efforts to date were gratifying. Members expressed their gratitude to Mr. E. J. Carr for organising a concert for the funds and to those who sent donations for the concert and for the stalls. The nurses’ report for September stated that the number of babies on the books under two years old was 354. New babies for the month numbered 33. The number of visits to homes was 211. Adult visitors to the rooms numbered 493, baby visitors 451 and older children 132. Adults advised on domestic hygiene numbered 61. Visits to Waitara numbered 4 (57 old babies); visits to Inglewood 4 (97 old babies; 4 new); visits to Urenui 3 (31 old babies, 3 new); visits to Okato 2 (33 old babies, 3 new).
