BRITISH SERVICES SPEEDED UP.
SPEEDS UP TO 71 MILES AN HOUR.
British Wireless. Rugby, Sept. 10. The railway winter timetables, which come into operation at the end of the month, provide for speeding up a number of important services. The London North-Eastern line is introducing a stream-lined express,’ the “Silver Jubilee,” which will make the fastest long distance run in Britain, being timed to cover 268 . miles between London and Newcastle in four hours, with a halt at Darlington, giving an average speed of 70 miles an hour. The London-Midland and Scottish Company’s Night Scot and several other night trains are cutting their times by from 10 to 15 minutes. The Great Western Company inagurated a new service yesterday between London and Bristol. The Bristolian leaves Paddington at 10 o’clock and is booked to pass Bath, 106.9 miles, in 91J minutes, representing an average speed of 70 miles an hour, while on its journey back from Bristol it is allowed only 931 minutes for the Hi miles from Stoke Gifford to Paddington, which gives an average speed of 71.5 miles an hour.
