RELICS OF MAHENO
PRESENTATION TO WELLINGTON.
FIRST DOMINION HOSPITAL SHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association. ■ Wellington, Last Night._ An interesting ceremony took place in the board room of the Union Steam Ship Company when the bell and naine plate of the old steamer Maheno were handed over by the company to the Wellington War Memorial and CariUon Society. n In presenting the relics, Mr. C. u. White said it was a fitting thing that such a ship should be so well remembered. She was the first hospital ship to leave New Zealand and those who sailed aboard her must have many affectionate memories of the old ship. . Lieutenant-Colonel Cowles, chairman of the carillon society, received the bell and plate. He said the nursing service was very enthusiastic and thankful at the generosity of the company ‘as. must be all medical officers who served in the ship and all those she carried in safety through the dangerous waters near Gallipoli and of the English Channel.
