PATEA PRIMARY SCHOOL
ILLNESS AFFECTS ATTENDANCE. A suggestion made by the Taranaki Bands’ Association that the annual excursion of the Pa tea schools be made to New Plymouth on the . occasion of the band contest was considered by the Patea school committee last week but full consideration of the proposal was deferred until a later date. The headmaster, Mr. C. P. Bates, reported that the' average attendance had fallen owing to the prevalence of mumps and chickenpox, the roll number now being 197. The proceeds of the sale of kumeras grown on the school plots had been used to purchase shrubs, and a donation of five rose bushes had been made by Mr. Benefield, Wanganui. The headmaster submitted the inspector’s annual report and was congratulated by the committee on the excellent work done by the staff. The chairman, Mr. R. E. Moore, asked Mr. Bates to convey tire committee’s congratulations to the school football team on winning the Duffy Shield. Appreciation of the work of the coach was expressed. Sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs. F. M. Clarkson, an ex-pupil and head teacher of tire school, was expressed.
