DEATH OF NATIVE IN FIGHT.
C.B. FOR THOUSAND SOLDIERS. London, July 22. A thousand British soldiers are confined to barracks at Jubbulpore, in the Central Provinces of India. They are the entire Ist Battalion tire King’s Regiment (Liverpool), and they are being held while the local military commander investigates a village fight in which men of the regiment'are believed to have been involved, An official statement issued at Simla says that on July 17 a woman of Karodi village (near Jubbulpore) was frightened by a soldier of the King’s Regiment. “Fearing molestation, she gave the alarm, whereupon some villagers ... assaulted the soldier. “The following night- a party of soldiers raided another village nearby, mistaking it for Karodi, and 13 villagers were injured. One has since died. “Until the report of the investigation iis received,” the statement adds, “it is impossible to give further details of the incident. “Meanwhile the regiment has beeri c6n» filled to barracks.” A cable message last w§ek stated that 23 men of the battalion handed over to the' authorities for trial on charges of murder'and rioting.
