Sergeant S. King, formerly of Fitzroy and now of Christchurch, is visiting New Plymouth.
Sergeant S. King, Christchurch, formerly police officer in charge of the Fitzroy district, is visiting New Plymouth on holiday leave.
Mr. L. J. Rattenbury, Waitara, who underwent an operation in the New Plymouth Hospital on Tuesday, is reported to be progressing favourably. The Rev. S. R. Gardiner, M.A., vicar of Waverley, has been appointed vicar of St. Augustine’s, Napier. He succeeds the Rev. Canon Alfred Hodge, who will be vicar of the Taradale parish in place of the Rev. F. E. Frost.
Captain Roger Pocock, founder of the Legion of Frontiersmen, at present on a tour of New Zealand, will visit New Plymouth on Tuesday, when he will meet L. Squadron. Captain Pocock will arrive at Hawera on Sunday and will meet M. Squadron of the Legion, including units from Eltham, Kaponga, Hawera and Stratford on Monday. Mr. W. J. Moffatt, who retired from the mayoralty of Nelson after eight years’ service and unopposed at the last two elections, was honoured last evening by a large representative gathering of citizens, reports the Press Association. He was presented with an illuminated address and a bound book containing signatures of citizens and with two armchairs. Tributes were paid to Mr. Moffatt’s unselfishness and efforts on the people’s behalf.
