POLL AT INGLEWOOD
MR. DUSCHENSKI RETURNED NEW WEST RIDING COUNCILLOR. Mr. Joseph Francis Duschenski, Norfolk Road, was elected a west riding representative on the Inglewood County Council in a by-election yesterday following the resignation at the ,last meeting of Cr. R. Stuart. There were three candidates, the unsuccessful nominees being Messrs. H. R. Mat'sh, Egmont Village, and R. B. Sutton, Inglewood. The provisional results only were announced last night, but it is not unlikely that the recount will alter the position, Mr. Duschenski having a margin of 21 votes over Mr. Marsh, who is 16 ahead of Mr. Sutton. The polling took place at four booths, at Inglewood, Tariki, Egmont Village and Kaimiro, from which the figures were:— Duschenski ..... 56 25 10 6 97 Marsh 44 3 27 2 76 Sutton 51 — 8 1 60 Informal .... — Total 233 The poll was a fairly heavy one for a by-election, nearly 60 per cent, of the 403 votes available being cast. Mr. Duschenski was a candidate at the regular election in May, when the three west riding seats were contested by seven candidates, Messrs. A. Corkill (the present chairman), G. W, Gibson and R. Stuart being returned. The voting then was as follows: Corkill 128, Gibson 119, Stuart 111, Duschenski 96, Marsh 96, A. J Dodunski 73, L. Gopperth 56. Mr. Marsh has stood for election several times, but Mr. Sutton was a contestant for the first time. Mr. Duschenski will not be able to take his place at the council table to-day as he cannot be officially declared a councillor until the recount has taken place and the result has been advertised.
