SPORTS BODIES ACT

SELECTION OF THEIR QUEEN. WINTER SHOW CARNIVAL. With a view to appointing a committee arid queen in connection with the Stratford winter show queen carnival, a meeting of representatives of sports bodies was held at Stratford last night. A queen was selected subject to her acceptance. ■ Present were M 63 ® l-5, (-'• Finnerty (chairman), D. J.'Malone, P. Skoglund, A. Davis, S. Lay, G. Grace, L. Wynyard,’A: C. Walker, W. Ireland, S. W. Whyte and N.' 0.. Ebbett. Teri apologies were received front representatives of a number of' clubs. “Generally I think the town is behind this movement," said Mr. D. J. Malone, “for most people realise that if the show lapses for want of a building, it will be difficult to resurrect' it at any ’future date.” ■ ■ ’ ’

A building such as would be erected weuld be of value to mure than the Winter Show. Association and would give scope for many bodies to develop along avenues that were now closed to theip. There were a number of sports bodies not represented at the meeting ; that would no doubt do their share. He understood, for instance, that several members of the golf club had intended to be present. However, there were enough present to" fOrr a committee. The chainnan tended to the view that the meeting should appoint a committee and leave it to the committee to elect a queen. • : . .. ’ , “I think it would be wise to proceed to-night,” Mr. P.. Skoglund said. “If this meeting were adjourned the impression might be formed that the town is not as enthusiastic as it should be.” He did - not ■ suggest adjourning the meeting, but whether it might be better to leave the ■ election of a queen to the committee, explained the chairman.

Mr. Malone moved that the committee comprise at lease one representative of each sports body. Those who were enthusiastic enough to attend that night should be on the committee together with representatives to be appointed by the clubs which had no delegate at the meeting. The motion was carried but the appointment of chairman and secretary was deferred, those bodies not represented to be approached ■in the meantime to ensure a full attendance.

Red, gold and black were selected as the colours.
