WAR AGAINST NOISE
PROGRESS MADE IN BRITAIN. ALL SECTIONS CO-OPERATING. British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Aug. 29. The Anti-Noise League has issued its first annual report, which records the valuable help received from the national physical laboratory, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry,of Health, the Royal Institute of British Architects and industrial firms and others engaged in experimental work on the problem of noise. Many local authorities have adopted the new model by-law controlling wireless loud-speakers. At least one authority has agreed to the cost of the addition of silencers on road drills. Milk distributors are co-operating in the campaign and silent electric vans or pneumatically tyred horse-driven vans are replacing the older types, while rubber devices are being used to deaden the noise of glass and metal containers. The report says the development of public opinion is insistent on action to eliminate unnecessary noise. The cooperation of experts who understand the causes of noise is being sought.
