BARROW TRUNDLING

ADVENTURERS REACH MOK AU.

ELEVEN DAYS FROM AUCKLAND. (Special to Daily News.) Trundling his wheelbarrow into Mokau at 5.30 p.m. yesterday, Mr. L. G. Lukey unloaded his passenger, Mr. J. C. Schofield, and said he felt very fit after pushing his burden 186 miles from Auckland in 11 days. Mr. Schofield, however, was cold. Hail storms and heavy rain pelted the adventurers periodically during their journey of 22 miles from Mahoenui yesterday, but they found the “going pretty good” nevertheless. The Worst section of the journey, they said, was the 20 miles between Pio Pio and Mahoenui, which they covered on Wednesday. They were glad to reach Mahoenui, where they stayed the night with Mr. Old. It had rained most of the day so they wanted shelter.

Messrs. Lukey and Schofield stayed last night at' the Tainui boardinghouse at Mokau. They will leave there at 9 o’clock this morning for Ahititi, 14 miles away, and to-morrow they will cross Mt. Messenger to spend the night at Uruti. On Sunday it is intended to go as far as Waitara and then, on Monday;, they will set out for New Plymouth, arriving about midday. From New Plymouth they will continue the journey through Taranaki to Palmerston North and Wellington. They left Auckland on August 5,
