AN APPEAL FOR PROGRESS.
In this issue of the Daily News the Windsor Park Society, Stratford, makes an appeal for public assistance towards the erection of a bridge over the Patea River to give ready access from one section of the park to the other. The sum required, approximately £l2B, is not a large one considering the project for which it is desired, and the response already made to the appeal for funds is a happy augury for its ultimate success. The Windsor Park Society has earned the commendation of all the civic-minded burgesses of Stratford by reason of its success in establishing the park with the limited finance at its disposal, and an appeal for donations to the bridge fund seems certain to meet with a sympathetic response. Apart from the fact that the bridge is an essential feature of a comprehensive scheme and is highly desirable froni the viewpoint of the development of the park, it would provide another river crossing to supplement the present bridges. Residents of the southeastern section of the borough have only one foot bridge at their Service, and there is a considerable length of river on each side of it between Swansea Road bridge on the east and Victoria Bridge on the west. The proposed structure would therefore provide an alternative crossing between Broadway and the present footbridge in Cordelia Street. A proposition that will add to municipal amenities as well aS to the better development of a valuable public reserve has good grounds for its appeal for support. The residents of Stratford have earned a reputation for generosity in matters that make for civic progress, and there is every reason to believe they will give prompt and effective support to the fund for the erection of the proposed bridge.
