NEW BOWLING GREEN

PROVISION AGREED TO. STRATFORD CLUB’S PROPOSAL. The majority of over 20 members of the Stratford Bowling Club agreed at a special meeting last night to the necessity for having an additional green on the blind portion of Ariel Street adjoining the present green and a subcommittee was appointed to interview members with a view to raising £3O. Mr. H. Summerfield presided. The secretary, Mr. W. MacDonald, stated that he had estimated material, ploughing and discing to coat £2O 19s 6d, but the committee considered that a margin should be allowed bringing the total estimated cost to about £3O without labour.

The greenwarden, Mr. W. Harris, explained that apart from any other reason an extra green was needed so that the main green could be spelled during periods of dry weather when it began to show signs of wear. He did not anticipate that labour would prevent any difficulty. The question of asking members to do the work voluntarily was discussed from various angles, some preferring to make donations while others indicated they were willing to assist with the actual work.
