RATAPIKO DANCE
BASKETBALL CLUB'S SUCCESS. GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The Ratapiko Basketball Club’s dancs on Tuesday was most successful, both financially and socially. The hall floor had been specially prepared. Music was supplied by Hooker’s Orchestra, Mrs. J. Lepper -and Miss Mavis Grigg were in charge of the dance programme and the secretarial duties were carried out by Mrs. Fred Hill. During the evening a waltzing competition was held. There were large entries and the event was run off in heats. Mr, E. Grigg acted as judge and awarded the prizes to: Mr. Jack Hooker and Miss Gordon 1, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hill 2, A Monte Carlo was won by Miss Nellie Gafinaway and Mr. Nolan Bracegirdle. In the card room a euchre tournament was controlled by Mr. Jack Lepper, the prizes being won uy Miss R, Skedgewell and Mr. M. Nolan. Songs were contributed by Mr. Stewart Gordon and extras were played by Mr. Harold Humphries and Mr. Mick Keogan. On Friday night the Inglewood badminton team visited Ratapiko and played the second match in the Spalding Shield contest. The Inglewood team won by 8 sets to 4. Details, Inglewood mentioned first, are;— Women’s doubles: Mrs. Kay and Miss Longbottom defeated Mrs. McClellan and Mrs. Corbett, Miss D. Alleman and Miss C. Alleman defeated Miss D. Corbett and Miss J. Dravitzki, Miss D. Alleman and Miss C. Alleman lost to Mrs. McClellan and Mrs. Corbett, Mrs. Kay and Miss Longbottom defeated Miss D. Corbett and Miss J. Dravitzki.
Men’s doubles; T. Kelly and A. Longbottom defeated R. and D. Therkleson, L. Kay and M. Lindsay lost to W. Wells and G. Linklater, L. Kay and M. Lindsay lost to R. and D. Therkleson, T. Kelly and A. Longbottom defeated G. Linklater and W. Wells. Mrs. Kay and T. Kelly defeated Mis McClellan and D. Therkleson, Miss Longbottom and A. Longbottom defeated Mrs. Corbett and R. Therkleson, Miss D. Alleman and L. Kay defeated Miss D. Corbett and G. Linklater, Miss C. Alleman and M. Lindsay lost to Miss J. Dravitzki and W. Wells. During the week-end the Kaimata football team visited Ratapiko and was defeated by 20 points to 3. Mr. and Mrs. B. Dust have returned from a short visit to Wanganui. Miss Dulcie Hill was a visitor to Rata piko for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. J. Lepper and Mrs. N. Downs have returned from a motor tour through the Thames district. Mr. K. Wells has returned from a short holiday at New Plymouth. Mrs. G. Hucker, president of the Ratapiko branch of the Women’s Division, visited Wellington for the annual conference. *
