MOTOR SKIDS IN GRAVEL PASSENGER SUFFERS INJURY. TRAIN STRIKES ANOTHER CAR. DRIVER'S FORTUNATE ESCAPE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Waipukurau, Last Night. A fatal motor smash occurred at Hatuma this afternoon. Skidding in loose metal at a corner on Hatuma Road a car driven by Miss Hilda Ellen Peacock crashed into a bank. Miss Peacock, who is well known throughout Hawke’s Bay, was fatally injured. A passenger, Mrs. W. 8.. Fisher, suffered injuries that necessitated her removal to the Waipukurau Hospital. The car-was damaged extensively. Struck by a locomotive at a level crossing on the main road between Waipukurau and Waipawa a car owned and driven by Mr. W. Goring Johnston, Timaru, was hurled back across the road and badly smashed. It fell down a bank and through a fence. The driver had a miraculous escape, suffering only shock and slight injuries.
