“THE RICH YOUNG RULER”
SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE. A repeat performance of “The Rich Young Ruler” was given in the Salvation Army Citadel, New Plymouth, last night. The performance was an improvement on the original staging, the actors having lost the nervousness apparent on the first occasion. The best work was that of Miss D. Burrows as Asenath, her change in demeanour, from that of the haughty wife of the ruler to that of the grief-stricken mother, being particularly well done. Other parts creditably played were those of Haddissah, the ruler’s daughter (Miss E. Frewin), Ben Azel, the ruler (Mr. P. Francis) and Johanan (Mr. Smith). Others in the cast were: Asor (Miss Ivy Frewin), Nason (Mr. L. Canty), Miriam (Miss D. Kahui), Leah (Miss E. Hargreaves), Bartimaeus (Miss N. Hargreaves) and Zaccaeus (Mr. J. Cobb). Items were also given by the Young People’s Choir, Bobby Wilmshurst (drum solo) and by Miss Enid Hay and. Miss Edna Marsden (recitations). A duologue, “The Bashful Lover,” caused much amusement. Adjutant Canty presided at the gathering, which was well attended. ’
