KAPONGA LODGE MEETING
GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. N. G. Bro. J. Carbis presided at Monday night’s fortnightly rireeting of the Oddfellows Lodge. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect for the late Brother J. W. H. Gardner. For the annual ball Sisters M. Evans and S. Bertie were deputed to make the supper arrangements. The Rev. A. J. Famell attended the Anglican synod meeting at Wellington. ■ The first of a series of flag five hundred evenings conducted by St. Marks Anglican ladies’ guild was held at the parish hall on Tuesday. Prizes were won by Mr. and Mrs. J. Blackwell and Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Brewer. Messrs. L. A. Brewer and R. Gwyn motored to Wanganui on Wednesday to attend the marriage of Mr. Chas. Harding. Mr. C. A. Corder, postmaster, has resumed duty after annual leave spent at Wellington. Mr. L. A. Wells, who . has been actingpostmaster for the past three weeks, left on Friday for Auckland, where he will spend his annual holiday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Wells. Miss I. Guppy, who has been a member of the teaching staff of the Kaponga public school for some years, is shortly to resign in view of her approaching marriage. Mr. Angus Powell, Manaia Road, who has been confined to his bed for some time, is making satisfactory progress and expects to be about again shortly. There are 15 unemployed .workers registered at Kaponga, nine being engaged under the supervision of the Kaponga Town Board and six under the Eltham County Council. The issue of blankets is almost complete and boots are being issued. Mrs. C. Gwyn is receiving treatment at the Kaponga hospital.
