MANAIA SCOUTS
GOOD PROGRESS REPORTED. The monthly meeting of the Manaia Scout committee was held on Thursday night. Those present were Mr. E. M. Marshall (chairman), the Rev. R. Miller, Messrs. L. C. Harrison, J. Browning, L. A. Walters, J. Clague, A. Jz.Clare, Mesdames J. Christie, A. J. Clare and N. E>. Davis. .Group Scoutmaster- H. Cottom reported that the -usual parades had been held ahd to some-extent these had been affected by the long spell of wet weather. This has kept away some boys living at a ; distance and made it impossible to tike any . outdoor work, except a turn ai Scout pace, which v as often taken just before opening the indoor parade. The Bulldogs and Seagulls troops secured .the best average, id the average attendance for the month was 22.5. Conduct was good and fair progress was made. The troop was working to get as many second class Scouts as possible. ’ i The panel of examiners was left over until later on account of some examiners leaving the district. The visiting committee consisting of Mesdames Clare and Paul reported on a visit to‘the Cubs and stated that 14 Cubs were present and the discipline of the boys was good, the cubmaster showing good control over the pack. They also visited the Scouts and reported favourably on the work. Messrs. Harrison and Browning were appointed a. visiting committee for the ensuing month. Ttoop Scoutmaster Cottom asked to have Troop Leader G. Innes appointed assistant-Scoutmaster' and that application be made for a warrant. Ab several badges had been won by Scouts it was decided to hold a social gathering to present the badges to the boys. Correspondence was read from Dominion headquarters, which stated that the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, had been appointed Chief Scouter of the Dominion.
In the event of the annual competitions for ! * Scout and Cubs being held at Manaia this year Group Scoutmaster Cottom gave an outline of the requirements, and the . meeting will be held next week to enable the delegate to . what expense the competition would involve. It was felt the committee would have the support of the Opunake, Auroa and ptakeho troops.
