CROQUET AT PATEA

CLUB REVIEWS SEASON. , X An active year was reviewed at the annual meeting of the Patea Croquet Club. Mrs. W. Lester presided over a good attendance. ■ The report stated that the season commenced in October. An all-day friendly match had been played with Okaiawa and “away” and “home” matches were played with Waverley, The St. John’s Club successfully challenged for the Wedderspoon Cup, which had been held by Patea throughout the previous year. The Tait stars came to Patea, and after the defeat of Hawera they were later passed in through no challenge being received. They were afterwards held by Waverley, which successfully withstood Patea’s challenge. The club’s, Campbell and McL’Dowie Cups teams both reached the semi-finals. In recognition of the success of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Gibbs at the North Island tournament an enjoyable day of progressive croquet was held. The club was represented at the Hawera tournament by Mesdames Lester, Masters, Cunningharfi, Gibbs, Maxwell and Mr. Gibbs. Congratulations were extended to the secretary on her first tournament success and in winning the B championship. ~ \ Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs. A. J. Gibbs; vice-president, Mrs. F. Ramsbottom; hon. secretary, Mrs. J. O. Cunningham; committee, Mesdames Spooner, Hunger, O’Reilly, Ingley and Miss Lavery; central council delegates, Mrs. Cunningham and Mrs. Gibbs.
