TROTTING AT EPSOM

AUCKLAND MEETING ADAMS MEMORIAL CUP RACE. BAD RECORD OF FAVOURITES. (Special to Daily News.) Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Trotting. Club’s winter meeting, which will close the season in the north, will open at Alexandra Park, Epsom, to-morrow and the fields are of useful 'size and quality to ensure keen racing. The chief race, the Adams Memorial Cup, has drawn a field of 12 and the Cornwall Handicap 16. As usual -at Auckland winter meetings the track will be heavy, giving horses with mud credentials a preference. A feature of the Adams Cup race, is that since its inception in 1922 only two favourites, • Harold Logan and Worthy Light, have-been successful. . The improving Captain Bolt will take heading in the Winter Trot and if he repeats his Hamilton solidness may have his revenge on Meadow King. In spite of an interrupted preparation Worthy Nor will go a sound race, while Nelson’s Glory only needs to keep down to be well in the picture. Native Princess is likely to show some improvement, but the best supported may be Captain Bolt, Meadow King, Nelson’s Glory. With few exceptions the limit horses in the ■ Mapgere Handicap have shown useful form without winning a race, the most noticeable being Bonny Azure, Nelson Logan, Cherrill,-.Kia Kaha, Worthy Boy, Ranfurly Lass and Gloster. If there is. a surprise it, may be Frank Best or the good trotter .Great Admiral. Great Chum , and Derby Fame have prospects but investors will prefer the Bonny Azure—Nelson Liivan bracket, Kia Kaha ■ or Ranfurly Lass. • Because their trainers consider them worthy of a trip north, the southerners Manoeuvre and Great Logan will be accorded a good measure of support but they will find some of the locals tough rivals. Woe Machine is a great little horse in soft ground, and his stablemate Chancellor is a solid customer. Jackie Thorpe and Nimbus have won good handicaps and are in fine heart, while Willie Derby is a consistent winter performer. The pick of the handicap looks to be Bingen Chief, but Tempest will have friends. Fancies may include Bingen Chief, the Wee Machine-Chan-cellor bracket, and Tempest. Great Admiral, if started in the Stewards Trot, will see a short price, as he will be bracketed with the well performed Te Kahu, who will also take beating if his stablemate is missing. Arm Parrish will have a good following and Winwhata, Manna’s Son. Kumi, Mountain Sun and Mute should be capable of sound efforts. Most support may be for the Great Admiral—Te Kahu bracket, Ann Parrish and Kuini. . . . . The class is , useful in the Hobson and Our McKinney, who has been racing well, may be the pick of the limit lot,, although . Bismuth and.. Bonny Azure (if she succeeds earlier) will be dangerous. Ironsides will be making his first appearance ,at t Auckland and Rockella will , count more friends. Lucky Love is in great heart but Electric Bell reads better. Three to find favour may be Electric Bell, Our McKinney and Rockella. ; : ' Several of those on the limit Of the Cornwall Handicap have no recent form to recommend them, but Homeward and Nelson tie Oro have been shaping well. Travis is a possibility, but Braekep. looks to hold those in front of her safe.. Lady Coronado and Prince Pedro are good in heavy going, and Kewpie’s Guy is improving. On his’ Ha: -ilton display Peg-, away will be very dangerous. In a wide range the favourites may be Bracken, Pegaway and Prince Pedro. J One of the most even fields of the day is in the Marconi Handicap. If Electric Bell wins earlier she will be on her correct mark herb and may win , again. Star Pronto is racing particularly well and Lady Amanda, is' on the. up-, grade. Kewpie’s King, Rare Rey t ,Bon-. nie Direct, King’s Warrior, Kewpies Bond, Silver Watch and Supertax will add to the difficulties of backers, but if Electric Bell is absent the favourites may be Star Pronto, Kewpie’s Bond and Supertax. •
