LEADERS TO MEET

OPUNAKE TO PLAY STRATFORD. RUGBY UNION MATCHES TO-DAY.’ Stratford and Opunake, leading teams in the Taranaki senior Jlugby competition, will meet at Opunake to-day in, a. match that will have an important bearing on the final placings of the teams. Both fifteens rely on team work, Opunake’s particularly being a well-balanced combination without any outstanding individuals. , *. =• • It was thought earlier in the week that Opunake would be weakened..almost beyond’ hope by the absence of five Maori; members of the team at Gisborne, but since then arrangements have been made whereby the players concerned will participate in the match against Stratford to-day and leave for ■ Gisborne to-mor«: row. • Okaiawa, which has not had a very good run this season, will play Tukapa on the South Taranaki ground, and New Plymouth Old Boys will meet Eltham at Sanders Park, New Plymouth. The prospects re for bright and even football in both games. - ; Clifton, fresh from its heavy defeat of Tukapa last week, will meet an old rival in Inglewood at Waitara. When these teams meet experi' ice has taught that anything may happen. Hawera will be seen at Pukekura Park for the second time this season to-day, its opponent being Star, which stood up well to Stratford last week. Kaponga and Waimaie will meet at Kaponga and Patea is to play Athletic at Hawera. The fixtures, all of which begin at 2.45 p.m., are:—' Stratford v. Opunake, at Opunake. Old Boys v. Athletic, at Hawera. SCHNEIDER SHIELD GAME. PURANGI AND KAIMATA DRAW. Another Schneider Shield competition Rugby match was played at Purangi during the week-end, Purangi drawing with Kaimata, three all. Mr. Jones, Kaimata, was the referee.
