EVENINGS AT OAONUI
GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The Ngatituhekerangi committee held a euchre party and dance in the Oaonui hall on Thursday. There was a fair attendance. The dance music was played by the Oaonui Maori orchestra, with extras by. Miss Coombe and Mr.-, T. Toro. Mr. Roach was master of • ceremonies. Prizewinners were: Mr. Tai Bishop 1; Mrs. Peter Bishpp and. Miss L. .Tioko 2 ' , equal and Miss M. Newmann and Mrs. F. Neumann 4 equal; Mr. T. Kelly 1; Mr. G. Bishop and Mr. Roach” 2 equal, and Mr. Horo and Mr. L. Neumann 4 equal. Lucky number prizes were won by Mesdames Tai Bishop, J. Dalton and M. S. ' Coombe, and the men’s by Master E. Mitchell and Mr.. J. Ratahi. ' Miss H. Bishop and Mr. L. Neumann won a Monte Carlo waltz. A gift evening was tendered to Miss Marion Brewer and Mr. A. Gibson last Saturday in the supper room of the Oaonui hall, which was well filled. Dancing and games were interspersed \ with songs by Mrs. S. M. Coombe and flute solos by Mr. L. A. Bosworth, accompanied by Miss A. Coombe,’(piano). 'Mrs. and Miss Coombe and Mr. Bosworth played music for dancing, Miss E. Fleming and Mr. S. M. Coombe won a ’ Monte Carlo dance. Mr. J. Linley on behalf of the residents of Oaonui presented the young couple with gifts. Prizewinners at an Arawhata Road / „;■ school euchre party were: Miss Myrtle. Fraser and' Mr. • H. Bishop, while Miss Phylis Neumann and Mr. R. Lusk- won consolation prizes. > Mr. and Mrs. Brewer entertained at a euchre party last Tuesday in aid .of the .■ bush baby at their home. Nine tables were occupied at cards while a large < -'i number spent the evening in community singing. Mrs. L. A. Bosworth and Mr. L. Billing were the prize winners. Two cars, one belonging to Mr. J. Young, Oaonui, the other to Mr. Ward, Opunake, collided, at the comer of Kina Road and the main road on Thursday afternoon, Mr. Young’s car escaped with slight damage, the carrier being tom off and the mudguard while Mr. ■ < Ward’s car, which' ■ overturned and crashed into a hedge, narrowly missing a telegraph pole, had to be towed away. / None of the four occupants was injured. < Mrs. T. Gardner, senior, has returned home. Mr. lan Williams is spending a holiday at New Plymouth. • I? Mr. ’’J. Gurcher is spending a holiday at Waitara. V Mr. C. Mahy, Tikorangi, who has been visiting Mr. and 'Mrs. Linley, has returned home. Mrs. J. Linley has' left for a holiday. Mrs. J. McFie is visiting her father at «• , Auckland. '■ Miss Margaret Wilson has returned to Matapu. , . . Mr. and Mrs. R. Baylis have returned from Auckland.
