HOARDS OF NOTES IN SAFE

ECCENTRIC WOMAN’S LARGE FORTUNE Stories of a woman who died leaving £16,898 largely in house property, and who concealed £19,900 in notes in an old rusty safe in her .cellar, were told at Leeds Assizes when her will was disputed. Miss Eva Ogden sought probate of the will of her mother. Mrs Eliza Ogden, of Wisbey, Bradfofn, who died last year, aged 72. . Defendants were Joseph Lofthouse Ogden, of Bray, County Wicklow; Herbert Ogden, of Shipley,, and Mrs Alice Jowett, of Shipley, who alleged that at the time of making the will their mother was not .of sound mind, memory, and understanding. . - It was stated that under the terms of the will Mrs Ogden left £lOOO to be divided equally ataong five children, and the remainder of the property to Evil absolutely. Mr Justice Goddard stated that defendants had alleged that their mother was a drunkard, a miser, a bully, and an insane woman. She must have been a thoroughly unpleasant mother, to say the least of it. She bullied her children and was, cruel, and sent them out to work at a very early age, taking* all their wages from them and give them very little back. But, however that might be, she could leave her property to whoever she- pleased. The jury’s verdict declared the will -to be valid.
