WELFARE OF STOCK

APPOINTMENT OF VETERINARIAN. RECOMMENDATION AT HAWERA. ■ ' r A recommendation to the Department of Agriculture that a qualified veterinary surgeon should be stationed at Hawera was made by the general committee of the Egmont A. and P. Association yesterday. “It is worth hundreds of pounds to the district to have a qualified man here,” declared the president, Mr. J. Forbes. In making the recommendation to the meeting Mr. E. A. Washer said the lack of a surgeon was most noticeable at present, and the arrival recently in New Zealand of several young men from England might pave the way for an appointment to be made at Hawera; which was the centre of a large district. Other speakers stressed the necessity for a veterinary, surgeon’, though-it was considered an appointment would mean no reflection on the stock inspector stationed at the Hawera branch of the department
