LABOUR CANDIDACY
STRATHMORE SOCIAL EVENING. A social' evening and dance was held in the Strathmore hall on Thursday night when the Labour candidate for Stratford, Mr. P. Skoglund, was introduced. The chairman was Mr. A. Meredith. Mr. Skoglund addressed the meeting mainly- on the . Mortgagors’ Final Adjustment'Bill He said it would not give adequate relief to the farming community, and 'the farmer unfortunate enough to come under the provisions of the Bill would become a mere robot, fed, clothed and operated by his trustee. Community singing was a feature of the programme and Mr. P. Brennan supplied the music. Mr. A. Frans was master of ceremonies. MIDHIRST PERSONAL NEWS. Mr. M. Guthrie left by express on’ Thursday for Christchurch. Mr. T. O’Connor, Auckland, is visiting Midhirst. . Mr. W. Platt left by express on Fridav for Auckland. Mr. Dampney, Takapau, Hawkes Bay, who has been on a tour to Auckland, visited Mr. Dill senr. on his way home. A number of young friends of Mr. Manrlro Guthrie took a surprise party to his home last Monday evening before his departure for Christchurch, where he has obtained a position. The time was spent with cards, games and ping pong. Before the close of the evening Mr. A. Jensen presented Mr. Guthrie with a ; set of brushes and wished him sue- ■ cess. Mr. Guthrie replied. _ PERSONAL ITEMS'. Mr. D.
